- Talas region
The city of Talas is the administrative center of the Talas region of Kyrgyzstan. It is located in the northeast of the region at an altitude of 1280 m, 360 km from the city of Bishkek. The population of the city is just over 33,000 inhabitants. A river of the same name flows through the city. There are two ways to get to the city: through the neighboring Republic of Kazakhstan or on the way through the Otmok pass on the border of the Chui and Talas valleys. Although Talas is considered a relatively small city, it won great fame because, according to legend, it was here that the famous hero of the Kyrgyz people, Manas, was born and lived. A few kilometers from the city is the Mausoleum (Gumbez) Manas. Also in close proximity are galleries of rock paintings and rock paintings, as well as the site of an ancient person.
