The famous Russian traveler of the XIX century Nikolai Mikhailovich Przhevalsky was one of the first to make an expedition to Central Asia. Especially charming is its lake, located in its vicinity. He completed his journey and life in 1888 at the place where present Karakol is located. In this place, where he was buried, there is a memorial complex. The museum has an exhibition dedicated to the life of the traveler. It contains more than 500 exhibits, including photographs, documents, personal belongings of Przhevalsky. In the center of the memorial complex stands a nine-meter monument, in which a bronze eagle rises, as if praising a glorious scholar. Behind the monument is the tomb of Nikolai Mikhailovich. The territory of the memorial complex is lined with a beautiful orchard.
